Description:
Deacon + Richardson were appointed to develop a scheme which would provide an open plan living space on the ground floor of a terrace property in Brighton.
The existing rear extension was removed and replaced with a contemporary ‘wrap around’ side / rear extension. These proposals had to be carefully negotiated against the restrictive policy that the Local Authority had in place at the time.
The floor level was dropped to bring the extension level with the garden and minimise impact on the neighbouring properties. Partitions were removed to create a single large split-level living / kitchen / dining space. The new kitchen featured a reconditioned vintage Rosieres range cooker and polished concrete worktops.
The project was completed within the constraints of a tight budget. Deacon and Richardson Architects provided a complete service where in addition to the design and statutory applications we managed the procurement process, executed a building contract between the client and main contractor and attended regular two weekly site meetings.
