Description:

We were approached to design a new four-bedroom home for a site on Sandown Road in Southwick.

We started developing our design by conducting a density study, establishing an appropriate building footprint for the site. Correspondingly we analysed the building lines and settled on a mass suitable for a four-bedroom property. The resulting proposal was for a 184m² home, way above the minimum 130m² guidance for a property of this type.

The proposed floor plan provides a contemporary layout with an open plan dining and living room, separated from the kitchen by pocket doors. A modern kitchen with island connects to the rear garden through a family room surrounded by large bi-folding glass doors. At first floor there are two double bedrooms and the principal bedroom with ensuite. Finally, within the roof pitch is the fourth bedroom complete with ensuite and considerable eaves storage.

The local area is predominantly made up of traditional style buildings in terms of their form and materials. Our proposal maintained the Southdown Road vernacular, using white brickwork and fibre cement slates for  tile hanging and the roof covering.
